A short introduction.
Jack still mourns his lost love but now he has more to worry about.  His friend has died and Charmsbury’s local journalist, Alexandra Price, is getting closed to discovering The Community.
Alex has no idea as to the identity of the woman’s body that has been found in the park, but it leads her on a journey of discovering more about her home town than she could ever imagine.
What connection could an unknown body, an abandoned baby, missing people and a triquetra have?  She sets out to find some answers, unaware of how it will affect the people she loves most.

Chapter One
It’s late July and hot; Charmsbury Park is looking spectacular with its beautiful floral displays of which the town is so proud.  The cordoned off area to the side of the bowling green is the only thing that spoils the view. According to the news this morning on the local radio, a man walking his dog had come across the body of a woman. The official line was that it was natural causes and no-one seemed to have any idea who she was.
Jack knew who she was and was just relieved that the body had been found. He had placed her gently alongside her favourite flowers Geraniums and now her body had been discovered she would get the proper burial that she deserved. She’d been a lovely, kind person, a good friend to him and he was already missing her. He had waited and watched as the police arrived to check the scene and take her body away and he was grateful they had treated her with respect. He had also heard the news play out on the gardeners’ radio which was perched on a fence post; it was tuned to a local station that was blaring away whilst he was working diligently at painting some fencing a lurid shade of pink. Now Jack was happy that everything had been taken care of it was time for him to head home and relay the news.
He would have to walk about four miles out of town and get back home without being seen, it seemed like a long walk now that he was almost seventy years old but it would also give him plenty of time to be alone, think and grieve for his friend. He walked past places he knew from his childhood but no one recognized him, he was just another face in the crowd which was the beauty of this being a tourist town and that suited him fine. On his right was the road leading down to the beach, he rarely went there anymore but in his younger days he had enjoyed the beach and on hot summer nights, he had slept under the pier, lulled by the sounds of the waves lapping at the sand.  Over to his left was a new building that was going to house the new town library, he had read about it in one of the local newspapers but he hadn’t yet found out what the old library building was going to be or when the changeover would take place. He supposed it didn’t really matter anymore anyway as it had been years since he had needed to use it.
He smiled to himself as the memories came flooding back.

 

I just wanted to share these first few reviews with everyone as I am rather proud of them, there are more on the Amazon page. Humour me it won’t be a regular occurrence….. promise.

 

The Community drew me in straight away & I became completely absorbed in how the story unfolded as both a mystery and a love story. I loved the characters & how their story spanned several decades. I can definitely see this story making an excellent T.V. drama and can’t wait for the follow up from this author.

Sadly, The Community was a little too long to be read in one sitting. I fell asleep last night with my Kindle in my hand and finished reading it this evening. I didn’t even want to put it down to get the dinner ready!
I warmed straight away to Jack and Alex, the characters are believable and ‘real’. The story contains a number of threads from different decades that come together nicely and the story is tied up neatly at the finish with no loose ends.
I would love to see more books with Matt and Alex, solving mysteries together. Their relationship is believable and has a lot of mileage left in it.
Without giving any spoilers away, I would have loved to be part of something similar to The Community.
I would recommend this book to everyone who likes drama, cosy mystery, crime or just a good story.

Basically, it is brilliant!
What you have achieved is a masterful combination of different stories that had me desperate for the next revelation and eagerly awaiting to see how they all came together. More important was the emotion I felt at times, particuarly  as the love story unfolded and as certain ‘things’ took place. I am not ashamed to say that I had to dry my eyes at times and even blow my nose !!

Well…. I thoroughly enjoyed reading your book Ms Richmond!
The weaving of the characters, the way the story was told past and present was enchanting.  Romantic as well as sad.  Each character with their own secrets, you don’t get to learn them all. Keeps making you want to learn more. I started reading it and it was so easy to read, I didn’t want to put it down.  When I next  picked it up, I was determined not to be interrupted!  I must admit, the ending was quite a jolt, I wasn’t expecting that!

A fantastic first novel, full of intrigue and touch of nostalgia. Really loved the storyline but what an amazing ‘ didn’t see that coming’ conclusion. Only complaint…..can’t wait for the next book! Congrats but won’t say good luck with your book, you won’t need it, it’s just brilliant!
