Distractions

I sit down at my desk to write,

Silence, perfect…

Just what I need to continue with my manuscript.

The birds are tweeting outside the window, such a pretty sound,

a pretty bird perches on the window sill, I don’t know what it is but I grab my phone to get a picture, so pretty.

It’s okay because the computer is still loading.

I’ll just post this bird’s picture on Instagram from my phone, someone will tell me what it is.

I sit down in front of my computer and open up the document, to begin writing.

Ping, I reach for my phone an email, nothing to worry about.

I check Instagram… nothing. I’ll just check facebook as they are linked, nothing about the bird there.

But there are some game requests, I’ll just send some lives and gifts out to my friends.

I turn back to the computer, it’s timed out. I reload.

Whilst I wait I’ll send a tweet and say hello to the world.

Okay now I’m ready to go, I poise my fingers over the keyboard, ready to go …

The phone rings, business, no I have to go back to work…

Word count : 0.

    • Hey Steph,

      Hoping all is well 🙂

I’m still tumbling in the dryer from my last visit, but now at least I have a pair of socks to wear lol 🙂

      Namaste 🙂

      Hey April,

I thought you may be interested in the following link…it offers a beautifully crafted and mindfully focussed opportunity for creative thinking. I too relish pen and paper (pencil sometimes is better, soft leaded) when on occasion the moment takes me – I think it is the directness, softness, gentleness and physicality of writing with a pen that is amiss when using a keyboard – else I try to fashion a frame of mind that concedes to the will of a black keyboard that gets little done other than a full-stop here or a comma there.

And then I hear a gull call from a rooftop who lets go one single wing feather to be carried upon the breeze blowing through my mind…

  1. Hey Steph,
Your words are so very true…my compulsive habit whilst settling into the hot seat is an impulsion to tidy the sock draw. I don’t even have a sock draw. It’s a repeating nightmare!
Great post, thank you. An afternoon smile and a welcome interruption was much needed, thank you. I’m heading back to the sock drawer, so will bid thee au revoir. Happy writing Steph!
    Take care.
    Namaste 🙂
