I sit down at my desk to write,
Silence, perfect…
Just what I need to continue with my manuscript.
The birds are tweeting outside the window, such a pretty sound,
a pretty bird perches on the window sill, I don’t know what it is but I grab my phone to get a picture, so pretty.
It’s okay because the computer is still loading.
I’ll just post this bird’s picture on Instagram from my phone, someone will tell me what it is.
I sit down in front of my computer and open up the document, to begin writing.
Ping, I reach for my phone an email, nothing to worry about.
I check Instagram… nothing. I’ll just check facebook as they are linked, nothing about the bird there.
But there are some game requests, I’ll just send some lives and gifts out to my friends.
I turn back to the computer, it’s timed out. I reload.
Whilst I wait I’ll send a tweet and say hello to the world.
Okay now I’m ready to go, I poise my fingers over the keyboard, ready to go …
The phone rings, business, no I have to go back to work…
Word count : 0.
If you’re going to be distracted, use pen and paper. Don’t even turn the computer on. I’ve read that using pen and paper makes a more creative part of the brain work, so another bonus.

Hey Steph,
Hoping all is well 🙂
I’m still tumbling in the dryer from my last visit, but now at least I have a pair of socks to wear lol 🙂
Namaste 🙂

Hey April,
I thought you may be interested in the following link…it offers a beautifully crafted and mindfully focussed opportunity for creative thinking. I too relish pen and paper (pencil sometimes is better, soft leaded) when on occasion the moment takes me – I think it is the directness, softness, gentleness and physicality of writing with a pen that is amiss when using a keyboard – else I try to fashion a frame of mind that concedes to the will of a black keyboard that gets little done other than a full-stop here or a comma there.
And then I hear a gull call from a rooftop who lets go one single wing feather to be carried upon the breeze blowing through my mind…

Hey Steph,
You tease with a tantalising line…
‘…a real pair or just close enough’….do you mean they are not a pair at all but in fact an apple in disguise? 😀
Thank you, it is lovely to be back again.
I have a friend who shares your name. She insists the meaning of her name ‘crown, or victorious’ is one she was born to own. I believe she is right.
Enjoy a wonderful weekend.
Take care in all ways always,
Namaste ❤

My biggest distraction is reading through a bunch of emails. Most of them are informative so time well spent.

My biggest distraction is reading WordPress posts that accumulate in my email folder. 😀

Hey Steph,
Your words are so very true…my compulsive habit whilst settling into the hot seat is an impulsion to tidy the sock draw. I don’t even have a sock draw. It’s a repeating nightmare!
Great post, thank you. An afternoon smile and a welcome interruption was much needed, thank you. I’m heading back to the sock drawer, so will bid thee au revoir. Happy writing Steph!
Take care.
Namaste 🙂

Ignore the sock draw… the washing machine will only eat them eventually. Write your heart out ❤

Thank you Steph 😀
Would that be the Great Washing Machine at the heart of the Universe? Or the one in my kitchen that eats only pairs and apples. It spins me out just thinking about it 🙂
Thank you for excellent advice, smiles and humour. Perfect for Sunday morning.
Namaste ❤

Those distractions are terrible if you give into them I could identify with your post and thanks for sharing.
